What is it that makes repeat offenders continue to offend?

The young man in this article isn't the first recently who is accused of committing a crime while wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet in the Charlotte area. That just doesn't make good sense to me. He is apparently a repeat offender, but what causes people to act out in this way. There has got to be something down deep that would cause someone to show that little use of common sense. I mean, they use GPS to monitor your location. It seems like a slam dunk in terms of securing a conviction. Read this WCNC article. What do you think?

Man attacked, apparently at random, with hammer

Did ya'll see this video of a man being beaten with a hammer on a Philadelphia subway? Apparently the victim and perpetrator did not know one another. The victim was asleep on the train prior to the attack. And the perpetrator's son was with him.

A little confusing to me at the end of the video, but not particularly relevant, is that the attacker gets off the train without his one and son's book bag at the end of the clip.

Here's the full "Today Show" story. The attacker was identified by friends/family after the video was shown on local news. He was apprehended at a mental hospital. He has a criminal history. Not sure about his mental health history, but this incident makes you wonder.

Is sudden death after arrest a new syndrome?

Thank goodness I was wrong

You probably have heard about the Lenoir, N.C. woman who survived 5 days in her crashed pick-up truck 75 feet down in a ravine off the side of a road. The story has become nationwide news. I'm in N.C. now, so here the story wasn't just the that Amber Pennell had been found, we heard about it when she first went missing.

It was something like this: A man reports his young 21-year-old wife and mother of two missing at 2 a.m. She never came home from work. He said she was driving an unfamiliar car so he was worried about her and he was sure she didn't just choose to disappear because she would never leave her two young children without their mother. I'm not sure how this sounds to you, but to me it sounds like the getting-all-too-familiar Drew Peterson-esque story (speaking of Drew Peterson, no one is lately.... I guess the election got heated enough to become the media's main focus). I was convinced that this husband must have had something to do with his wife's disappearance. They searched for days for Amber. I saw her picture and heard no new news daily. And I really thought her husband was involved. I am soooooo happy I was wrong. What a blessing that Amber was found, ALIVE! They said the first thing she asked about was her children, then her husband.

I don't know what to think about Drew Peterson and I definitely don't know all the facts of either of these situations or the seemingly similar ones that are sprinkled in our news, but sometimes things are not as they seem. Good thing the police and search and rescue didn't stop believing. Always keep a positive outlook and hope for the best.

DUI checkpoint tonight on U.S. 321

Yep, that's the headline for a Rock Hill (S.C) Herald article which outlines the times and location of an upcoming DUI checkpoint. Seems to defeat the purpose to me, but I'm sure some folks will still get caught drinking and driving. I will do my best to followup and let you know how many get cited and/or arrested.

Crime can put you in a tight spot

Tyree Monique robs store and is crushed to death in trash compactor trying to hide from police. Eaton County sheriff's department says that Monique and a friend were suspected in shoplifting from a TJ Maxx Michigan. Crime doesn't pay. Not sure if I'd call this a dumb criminal or just a lady with bad luck.

Come on now. Someone should have done their homework. What a big waste of time and tax payer money.

Did wife complete "murder" half of murder-suicide?

According to the StarTribune, Sandra Hanson tried once to kill her husband. Did she succeed in killing Noel Hanson hours after her release? On the surface it could appear that way. I'll reserve final judgment after the autopsy is complete. Noel had been sick, with diabetes and heart problems, but what are the chances that he would die the same day his wife, who tried to kill him, is release from jail to serve 20 years of probation? Anoka County Sheriff's Office Lt. Paul Sommer said, "It's an ironic set of circumstances."

Strange things happen in life. Maybe time will tell if death was approaching Mr. Hanson without regard to his wife returning home from jail.
