Why I created this blog...

...because my brother and I trade several emails daily concerning interesting, crazy, sad and otherwise
emotional news. And, we often forward articles to family and friends. So to stop to the continual
forwarding, here's the news and our commentary... let us know what you think too

Did trash media go too far?

Brooke Shields' 75-year-old mother who suffers from dementia was apparently checked out of her nursing home by someone posing as a friend, who was actually a freelance journalist. How sad... now you might say there is an issue with the security at the nursing home. And perhaps that should be considered, but who'd stoop so low for a scoop? Police are investigating and I hope this journalist and her photographer are prosecuted for something. Read the story here.

Mom drugs daughter so she'd have sex with mom's boyfriend

A truly sad story of a mother who apparently drugged and alcoholed her daughter so the mother's boyfriend could have sex with the daughter and impregnate her. Read it here. The mother can't have children anymore, but wanted one with her boyfriend, who apparently was on board and tried several times to rape the 13-year-old girl.

Restaurant scam sounds like a scan

My brother sent me this one... a scam during which a local restaurant is called "by it's regional office" and told to put cash ($700 in one instance) in an envelope and leave it in a ditch at a certain intersection, for bad service provided to a customer. Each time, restaurant employees complied with the caller's request. The caller of course knows the managers/owners of the restaurant names. But even so, to me, the story sounds suspect. Check out this News4Jax article.

Of course I say, you never know what you'd do in a situation until it happens. But for real, for bad service, you provide an apology. Even if you did refund or pay someone with the apology, leave the money in a ditch!?!?! I know we are taught to listen to what our superiors tell us, but for real, I am thinking I'd think this was some kind of test or something. I just don't know if I'd be responsible for complying.

Do you believe now?

Don't believe in Santa Claus?

A 9-year-old Texas girl does, and good thing apparently. In a letter she wrote to Santa, she asked that a relative stop touching her and her sister inappropriately. The letter and subsequent interviews led to the relative's arrest on molestation charges. Innocent until proven guilty of course, but what a blessing this wish came even before Christmas day. Read the Associated Press article here.

Halloween trick is deadly

It wasn't bad candy this family had to worry about.
A 12-year-old South Carolina boy was shot and killed as he trick-or-treated with this family. Upon knocking on the door of a porch with the light on, T.J. Darrisaw was shot through the door by a convicted felon with an AK-47, who told authorities he feared being robbed. Read one of the news articles here. What a sad situation.

You choose: Lap dance or care for your child

According to a recent report, a South Carolina man left his infant child unattended in his car in the parking lot of a strip club. While he said he only went inside to get a cell phone from his dancer wife, and didn't want to disrupt the sleeping child, police found him smoking a cigarette and receiving a lap dance. According to the man and his wife who took custody of the child after the father was arrested, it is all a big misunderstanding and a mistake. Read one article about the incident here.

If you can vote, you should vote

With the help of the local NAACP chapter and the local Sheriff, 21 inmates in the Catawba County, NC jail registered to vote. The Sheriff is working with the board of elections to have polls brought to the jail - I would guess some in addition to the newly registered will vote also. Read the article here.

Will you vote in the presidential election? What do you think about the Sheriff going out of his way to make it happen for the inmates there?

Support of Obama was dangerous for one man

According to this article, a man in London was shot simply for being an Obama supporter and wearing it on his chest... wearing an Obama t-shirt, that is. The perpetrator allegedly uttered racial slurs before firing the gun. Read about it here.

That's pretty sad and scary.

What is it that makes repeat offenders continue to offend?

The young man in this article isn't the first recently who is accused of committing a crime while wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet in the Charlotte area. That just doesn't make good sense to me. He is apparently a repeat offender, but what causes people to act out in this way. There has got to be something down deep that would cause someone to show that little use of common sense. I mean, they use GPS to monitor your location. It seems like a slam dunk in terms of securing a conviction. Read this WCNC article. What do you think?
